Description

The Bakırçay Delta is located where the Bakırçay River flows into Çandarlı Bay. The area has lagoons, small sand islets, and salt marshes. It serves as a habitat for numerous bird species, especially during the winter months. The Bakırçay Delta is recognized as an Important Bird Area (IBA).

I walked along the gravel road on the coast line towards the East, starting at Asnur Tatil Sitesi. In the ponds there were numerous waders that I could see from short distance, like Temmincksnipe, Dvergsnipe, Gluttsnipe and Polarsnipe. More in the distance there were Skjestork and Svartstork. Reaching the lagoons at the south-eastern edge you can find Flamingo, Hvitpelikan, Krøllpelikan, Stylteløper and others.

Access

The Bakırçay Delta is located east of the town of Çandarlı. You can park your car easily alongside the gravel road. I was using my bike. It's a bit bumpy, but it works. Press a P in the map for directions or coordinates.
