Sandarviken is a shallow bay north of Faludden. The surroundings consist of large costal meadows, with bushy areas and more forested areas, and a lagoon.

Description

At Sandarviken 223 bird species have been recorded. 35 species of wading birds have been recorded.

Sandarviken holds thousands of wintering Bergand but Sjøorre, Svartand, Ærfugl and diving ducks also winter in smaller numbers. Other waterfowl like Brunnakke, Skjeand Krikkand, Gravand and Snadderand also winter in the area. Sandarviken holds wintering Toppdykker, Gråstrupedykker, and Horndykker.Hvitkinngås also winter as do a few wading birds in winter. Kvartbekkasin is sometimes found. Wintering birds of prey are often found in the area. Some of the common ones are Myrhauk, Musvåk, Havørn, and Kongeørn.

During migration period the bay often holds large amounts of waders. Most numerous is the Myrsnipe which sometimes number in the thousands. Svarthalespove, Enkeltbekkasin, Tjeld, Storspove, Rødstilk, Myrsnipe, Avosett, and Sandlo all breed somewhat regularly. Other wading birds often found are:Steinvender, Tundralo, Lappspove, Sandløper, Temmincksnipe, and Dvergsnipe. Rarer wading birds like Fjellmyrløper, Svømmesnipe, Kvartbekkasin and Dobbeltbekkasin are sometimes found. Many vagrant wading birds have also been found.

In the lagoon Snadderand, Skjeand, Knekkand and many other dabbling ducks often Feed. Smålom and Storlom often rest at Sandarviken year round. Large amounts of geese use the coastal meadows as resting and feeding ground during their migration. Hvitkinngås and Grågås can sometimes be found in the thousands. Kortnebbgås and Rødhalsgås has been seen.
