Description

One of Gotland's best bird premises, an area with a rich, grazing flora and a peculiar landscape. Närsholmen is a low-lying, flat peninsula that is largely made up of ramparts of beach gravel. The area has been used as pasture for a long time, and much of Närsholmen has the character of a savanna. On the southern part of the peninsula there are some larger groves of planted pines. On Närsholmen's well-grazed shore meadows there is for much of the year a rich bird life. Nesting birds include Vipe, Tjeld, Rødstilk, Sandlo, Storspove, Avosett, Fiskemåke and Rødnebbterne. In spring and autumn, large flocks of Hvitkinngås and many different species of waders can be found on Närsholmen's shallow beaches. In winter there are often large flocks of Gravand as well as a lot of Lappfiskand in the bays north and south of Närsholmen. Havørn can be seen all year round.

Närsholmen is also known for the rarities that show up each year. Birds like Stellerand, Steppebrakksvale, Sibirlo, Ørkensteinskvett, Fuglekongesanger and Blekbrynsanger have been seen here.

In the pine groove by the parking lot there are often resting passarines – including these really rare visitors – during spring and autumn.
