Description
Just outside the village of Vegas Altas extensive rice fields start. The fields receive important winter concentrations of Trane and several species of waders like Svarthalespove, Sandlo, Stylteløper, Heilo, Dvergsnipe, Gluttsnipe, Brushane, Myrsnipe, Strandsnipe, Skogsnipe, Enkeltbekkasin and Grønnstilk. During the migratory passages, you can also see other wintering birds such as Blåstrupe, Vannpiplerke or Sivspurv. Other birds you can spot in the area are Krattvarsler, Tigerastrild, Vatreastrild and Hærfugl. Also many wintering birds of prey (sometimes in high densities) like Sivhauk, Myrhauk, Glente, Svartvingeglente, Dvergfalk and Jordugle. Best times for a visit are winter and spring, from November to May. From June to October it can be very quiet on the fields.
