Description

The Tajos de Alhama is a 2 km long gorge that extends from the town of Alhama de Granada to a small reservoir Presa de Alhama. The paths through the gorge and above along the eastern wall offer beautiful views of the gorge. On the rock walls you can see birds such as Vandrefalk, Tårnfalk, Kaie and Klippedue (Domestisert: Bydue). On the path on the east bank you will find Grønnfink and Kornspurv and at the bottom of the valley on the Rio Alhama many Svarttrost. Other birds you can encounter along the route are Svartrødstjert, Blåtrost and Vintererle.

Access

The Tajos de Alhama gorge is located directly south of the town of Alhama de Granada. You can reach the town via the A338 from Granada or via the A402 from Vélez Málaga. Press P on the map for directions to the car park. From the car park and camper area on Carr. Granada Vieja, the gorge can be reached on foot within a few minutes via the C. Carril Bajo.

A well-paved path descends into the gorge and follows the Rio Alhama. A circular walk is possible via a path after approximately 300 m. This leads up to the eastern bank. Above, past orchards and a gorge with some magnificent views to the Presa de Alhama. Back along the Rio Alhama and therefore through the gorge. All in all 8 km including a short visit to the beautiful town of Alhama de Granada.
