Siurana is one of the most beautiful villages in Catalonia. Worth a visit just because of the scenic beauty, but also because of the many birds you can see.
Regardless of the landscape aspect, a visit to Siurana is also justified from an ornithological point of view. Surrounded by large cliffs and with spectacular views over the nearby Sierra del Monsant, Siurana allows the observation of species from Mediterranean environments and strictly rocky environments. From the village you will see the Siurana reservoir, which collects the waters of the river of the same name, but it is not interesting for waterfowl. Any time of year is good if you take out the summer, when on the other hand it will be difficult for you to find parking. From the same village it is possible to observe Blåtrost and in winter Alpejernspurv are seen within the village itself. Very occasionally Murkryper can also be observed. The star bird of prey is the Haukørn but its observation is far from guaranteed. If you go to Siurana you can have lunch in a rural or design restaurant. You can take a path that follows the cliff along the southern slope of the village to the east. If you follow it you can get down to the river, but after that you have to go up !!! An alternative is that before or after visiting the village you stop by the fields around Cornudella or the Siurana river, especially in winter.
There is no public transport to go to Siurana. If you go by car on a summer weekend or holiday you will be parked a few hundred meters away from the village. There is the option to stay in Siurana itself making the visit even more relaxing.
