Lake with reed ridges and open water surface. Surrounded by sandy heath and arable land. Water channels for irrigation.
Laguna Juncosa can sometimes dry up completely in summer, but in winter and after a wet spring it can be superb for birding. Among the birds you can encounter here are Skjeand, Snadderand, Brakksvale, Strandsnipe, Sandlo, Vatreastrild, Topplerke, Avosett, Middelhavssteinskvett, Flamingo, Silkehegre, Bronseibis, Stylteløper, Hvithodeand, Rødhodeand, Svarthalsdykker and when you are lucky Marmorand or Knoppsothøne.
Easiest to drive from El Puerto de Santa Maria north. The roads are private but most locals just use them. Alternative is to cycle. But that is a a bit far to go. Note that this lagoon can dry up in summer.
