An imposing monument in the valley of the Albarregas River as it passes through Mérida.
Acueducto Romano de Los Milagros is a Roman aqueduct in Mérida. It is a pleasant environment within the city where heritage and nature are closely related. Formerly, it was an area of orchards taking advantage of the fertile lands and meadows of the Albarrega river. Now it is an extensive green area that runs through the entire river in its urban section. The Albarregas river is born in the Natural Park of Cornalvo. As it passes through Mérida, it is canalized, and although it normally has little flow, it is a river that never dries up.
In the 1990s, the ADENEX association placed artificial platforms on the upper part of the aqueduct for the Stork to breed. Over the years, a colony settled on the monument that continues today. Also in this environment, you can enjoy other species linked to river courses such as Stylteløper, Bronseibis, Stokkand and Silkehegre. At sunset, you can observe Kaie or Kirkeugle among many other birds.
