Koštunići Village lies on the long and mild southern slopes of the Suvobor mountain, combining a plethora of different habitats hosting various bird species.
Koštunići Village is located on the Suvobor mountain slopes that combine various habitats on a relatively small area into a unique mosaic. The village is known for its two mountain streams, Grab ("Hornbeam") and Bukovača ("Beech"). Both streams spring up below the Suvobor mountain top, then part their ways through the mild southern slopes and finally join forming Čemernica ("Wormwood") River near the village center point. Here you can find:
- Pastures, meadows, and grassy and scrubby hills (Hekkspurv, Hortulan, Kornspurv, Tornskate, Trelerke, Turteldue, Nattravn)
- Oak and pine forests (Nøtteskrike, Spettmeis, Kortklotrekryper, Duetrost, Flaggspett, Grønnspett, Gråspett)
- Long slopes with deep valleys in between (Musvåk, Vepsevåk)
- Rocky and scrubby slopes (Klippespurv)
- Mountain streams (Fossekall nesting near the dam on the Grab stream, Vintererle nesting along both Grab and Bukovača streams)
- Arable lands (Ravn, Skjære) and orchards (Balkanmeis)
Koštunići Village can be reached from many different sides. If you are coming from Belgrade and want the fastest route, take the "Miloš Veliki" highway to the Takovo intersection, then continue via Beršići and Brezna to Leušići. Here turn right and follow the narrow local road to Koštunići.
If you are coming from Belgrade and want the most scenic route (that is only 5-10 minutes slower than the fastest), also take the "Miloš Veliki" highway but depart at the Ljig intersection, pass through the Ljig town, then turn right to Kadina Luka, then again right to Ba village. Here the steep scenic ascent to Suvobor mountain begins. After the Suvobor mountain pass, continue stright via Brajići to Koštunići.
There is a small mountain resort "Eko Selo Koštunići" situated in the mountain river Čemernica valley in the southern, most accessible part of the village (marked on the map). Here you can dine delicious domestic food, or you can overnight as one day is probably not enough to properly visit all these different habitats.
