Description

The Petelea quarry ponds change shape depending on how much pebble is removed year after year. The 5 fish ponds are located towards the south. Habitat for waterfowl, waders, rails, herons and birds of prey.

Access

The Petelea quarry and fishponds are located between the villages Apalina and Petelea, on the right bank of the Mures river. Acces by car through the town of Reghin. Public transport: train, Petelea stop, acces through the river Mures by wading in low water conditions or via the quarry footbridge which needs permission from the security guards. Best to acces by car or bike. 2 to 3 hours if birds are present on each pond.

Note that car acces to the 5 fish ponds is by the discretion of the security guards. The guard dogs are used to seeing foreigners. Monday to Friday there can be heavy truck traffic at the quarry ponds.
