Description

Magic Mountain Lodge is well worth a couple days if you are visiting the Mount Hagen area. With comfortable lodgings, reasonable prices, and a great garden feeder - it has a number of Bird-of Paradise species found a little lower in elevation - such as Short-tailed Paradigalla, Stephanie's Astrapia, and at a hide up a short hill - King-of-Saxony Bird-of-Paradise, plus a very nice set of other species. The owner of the lodge can also arrange visits to other hides and birding spots - for Blue Bird-of-Paradise, Raggiana Bird-of-Paradise, and Lesser Bird-of-Paradise.

Access

Magic Mountain Lodge is located near Mount Hagen in the Western Highlands of Papua New Guinea. Access is via a very steep gravel road - best done in a stout 4x4. Magic Mountain can arrange a pickup from the airport, and transport to other birding spots. Best to use their transport, but a taxi could be used.

Best to explore the area on foot - spending time at the upper hide and then hiking a little further into the forest.
