Large reservoir 30 km southeast of Marrakesh that often attracts interesting birds.
The N'Fiss Reservoir (also known as 'Barrage de Lalla Takerkoust' or 'Barrage du Oued N'Fiss') is a 7 km long artificial lake. Although the reservoir is a popular tourist destination it is often attractive for birds, especially in spring and autumn and depending on the water level. To get good views of the birds a spotting scope is essential. Among the birds you can encounter are Rustand, Stylteløper, Sandlo, Dverglo, Strandsnipe, Skogsnipe, Gluttsnipe, Sandterne, Silkehegre, Kuhegre, Skjestork, Fiskeørn, Bieter, Varsler and Svartsteinskvett.
The reservoir is located 30 km southwest of Marrakesh and is about a 30 minutes drive on the S507 road. The best access and viewpoints are from the western side of the reservoir. Take the turn to the Relais du Lac restaurant. Several vantage points are available along this 5 km long tarmac road. Click on the P in the map to get directions or coordinates.
