Description

Valle Giumentina is known for its rugged and picturesque landscape. The valley is characterized by dry, rocky terrain dotted with ancient stone huts known as “tholos”. The huts were historically used by shepherds and farmers. These stone structures, along with stone walls, create a unique and historic atmosphere that reflects the region’s agro-pastoral heritage. The human habitation dates back to the Lower Paleolithic Age.

The landscape includes rolling hills, low mountains, and areas of wild vegetation, making it a beautiful spot for hiking and birding. Some of the birds you might see include Kongeørn, Vandrefalk, Tårnfalk, Alpekråke, Alpekaie, Svartrødstjert, Blåtrost and Steinskvett.
