The town of Massarella is situated on the south west edges of a lake and marshland area called Padule of Fucecchio which is the largest internal marshland in Italy and is a protected nature preserve. From Massarella it is easy to explore the southern part of the marsh area and see birds like Storskarv, Stork,Gråhegre, Egretthegre, Skjestork, Silkehegre, Kuhegre, Stokkand and Sivhauk.
