A fairly large river flowing out of Lake Mývatn. A good spot for observing Harlekinand!
The Laxá River is located on the western side of Lake Mývatn and flows out of the lake towards the bay of Húsavík. It's a fast flowing river and provides an ideal habitat for Harlekinand, which can be observed great from this spot. Small flocks can be seen resting on the shoreline. Other species that can be found here are Islandsand and sometimes Laksand.
The shores are a good spot for breeding waders, like Enkeltbekkasin and Rødstilk.
The area is easy accessable due to the bridge over the Laxá River. You can observe from off the bridge and about 50 meters north, a small parking lot is located east of the road.
