A small forested area on the eastern side of Lake Mývatn. A great spot for local breeding birds and migrants.
Höfði Woodland Park is located on the eastern side of Lake Mývatn and consists of a beautiful forested area adjacent to the lake. Several pathways lead through a diverse habitat with scattered trees, strange rock formations and great views over the lake. The park is a good spot for local breeding birds, such as Gråsisik, Rødvingetrost and Gjerdesmett. During migration, anything can show up here! Especially finches, like Bokfink, Bjørkefink and Dompap have been seen in the past.
The rocky parts are particular good for Fjellrype. The area is also used as hunting ground by Jaktfalk.
The views over the lake provide observations of many species of waterbird, like Islandsand, Bergand, Svømmesnipe, Siland and Havelle.
The area is easy accessable. It's located next to the ringroad around the lake and a parking lot is present. You can walk through the park on multiple unpaved pathways.
