Description

Wildes Moor Schwabstedt has raised and low moor structures, meadows and open water sources. It is a very diverse habitat in the region, in which many protected animal and plant species occur. Birds of prey such as Sivhauk, Myrhauk and Glente are of particular interest from an ornithological point of view.

During migration season, many birds can often be seen here. And during breeding season Blåstrupe, among others, make their home here. There is a small boardwalk loop (starred on the map) with information boards about the local ecology.

Access

Wildes Moor Schwabstedt is best explored by foot. The route marked on the map from the south to the north of the area is approx. 2.7 km one way. Be aware that the northern part of this route may be blocked by high water. Because of the possible high water, muddy land and boardwalks, exploring by bike is not advised, but bicycles can be parked and locked on the outer edges of the area.

There is a carpark on the southwestern edge (marked P on the map), and this is the best spot to explore the area from. There is actually a bus (No. 168) that goes from the nearby town of Schwabstedt to this carpark, it is a 15min journey. Otherwise this journey is a 15min/4.3 km cycle.

The nearest train station is in the town of Friedrichstadt to the southwest, and this is about a 45min, 14km cycle through the countryside to the carpark spot.
