The artificial lake feeding Niers river is a winter resting place for waterfowl and a breeding place for Storskarv, Gråhegre and Isfugl.
The Nierssee is a lake next to the river Niers and is used to control the water level of the river and to store water from the nearby sewage works. The island and the inaccessible banks are used by breeding birds, especially dozens of Storskarv and Gråhegre. Also Isfugl breeds here. During migration season and winter there are waterfowl to be seen. These include Toppand, Krikkand, Stjertand and Brunnakke. There is a viewing platform offering good views of the lake and the island with the breeding birds. The small canal to the Niers river and the river itself offers good opportunities to watch Isfugl while hunting. The surrounding forest is home to many common song birds and woodpeckers. Best periode for bird watching is winter including autumn migration. For the breeding birds spring / early summer it is also ok. At other times the area is less interesting.
You have to park in a residential street in Neersen, which should not be an issue.
