Former gravel pits that now form three interconnected basins. Almost 50 breeding bird species are known on the site.
Kiesseen Prettin is a body of water of 112 hectare located on the Elbe River near Prettin. Characteristic are the shoals and the sandbanks, some of which lie in the middle of the water. Almost 50 breeding bird species are known on the site. The waterfowl include Knoppsvane and Sothøne. The vertical bank walls are inhabited by Sandsvale, and Tjeld breeds on the gravelly flat banks. Rørsanger, Myrsanger and Sivspurv live in the reed beds, while Sørnattergal and Pungmeis live in the damp wood along the banks. The dry bushes are inhabited by Tornskate, Tornsanger and Møller, while Tårnfalk, Pirol and Pilfink breed in the trees. Rapphøne, Buskskvett, Topplerke and Steinskvett live on the ruderal and barren areas. The gravel lakes are also important for resting migrating waterfowl, especially Tundrasædgås, Tundragås, Taffeland, Toppand and Laksand.
