Description
The Hauener Pütten are 4 km west of Greetsiel in the west of East Frisia, right next to the Pilsen lighthouse. These clay pitts with an area of 47 hectares are very birdrich and many birds can be seen. With a little luck you can observe the colony of Skjestork here. 28 breeding bird species have been identified so far. Among them Blåstrupe, Skjeggmeis, Sivhauk, Dverglo, Sandlo, Rødstilk and Makrellterne. But many other ducks, geese, waders and waterbirds can be seen here, especially during migration time. See the extended birdlist below.

Access
Approx. 300 m before the parking lot at the Pilsen lighthouse (see the P on the map) is the wheelchair-accessible bird watching hide on the access road. Here you can observe many different wading birds at a short distance when the water level is low. From this point you can only continue on foot.
After the parking lot on the dike, after approx. 700-800 meters east, in the direction of Greetsiel, you come to a path that leads to another observation hut on the right (see the map).
Also a good idea to explore the area by bicycle. You can also cycle here quite easy from the village of Greetsiel.
