Park on the river Isar in the city of Munich with beech forests, gravel banks and resting areas for water birds.
The Flaucher is the section of the river Isar between the Thalkirchner Tierparkbrücke (zoo bridge Thalkirchen) in the south and the Braunauer Eisenbahnbrücke (Braunauer railway bridge) in the north. In this area the Isar is largely left untouched or rather renatured and branches off into several arms of the river below the Flauchersteg (Flaucher footbridge). There are interesting habitats such as large gravel banks and slow-flowing river sections. In the winter months you can regularly see foraging Laksand, Isfugl, Fossekall, Vintererle and Vannpiplerke. A little further south, near the Tierparkbrücke, hundreds of Knoppsvane, Grågås, Stokkand and Hettemåke spend the winter. Stripegås, Kanadagås and Hvitkinngås, which were introduced to the Munich area, are also frequently seen here.
Further north in the Flaucherwald, a tall beech forest, Mellomspett has recently settled, whose croaking calls cannot be missed hearing in spring. Otherwise, Flaggspett, Grønnspett, Spettmeis and Gråtrost are often encountered. There are also some winter feeding sites around an allotment with good chances of finding Bjørkefink, Grønnfink, Stillits and Dompap. North of the Brudermühlbrücke (Brudermühl bridge), on a tower of the Heizkraftwerk Süd (thermal power plant) west of the Isar, there is a breeding box for Vandrefalk, which sometimes sit outside or can be observed hunting in the area.
The Entenweiher (duck pond) in the northeast of the Flaucher area is also worth a visit. Numerous Stokkand and Mandarinand stay at this elongated pond all year round. The cavity-nesting Laksand and Kvinand also occur here.
Since the Flaucher is located in the Munich city area, it is easily accessible by public transport. You can quickly reach it on foot from the Brudermühlstraße and Thalkirchen subway stops on the U3 and Candidplatz on the U1. With bus lines 54, X30 and X204 (Schäftlarnstraße/Gasteig HP8 or only 54 Gerhardstraße) as well as with bus line 52 (Tierpark/Alemannenstraße) you can get even closer. Within the Flaucher you can easily get around on foot or by bike.
The Flaucher is a very popular local recreation area and is therefore very full of people, especially on warm days in summer. For bird watching, it is best to visit the area early in the morning and on weekdays, preferably in winter.
Please do not feed the waterfowl as this harms the animals and pollutes the water. Unfortunately, although park rangers try to ensure compliance with this rule, there are still people who feed the swans and ducks with bread or other inappropriate food.
