Description

During the winter months, many migratory duck and geese species rest at Altwarmbüchener See, such as Grågås, Kanadagås, Niland, Stokkand, Toppand, Krikkand, Snadderand, Brunnakke, Kvinand, Taffeland, Laksand and Tundrasædgås. Also Knoppsvane, Storskarv, Toppdykker, Egretthegre and Gråhegre can be seen regularly. The park around the lake is home to Linerle, Granmeis, Løvmeis, Gransanger, Dompap, Svarttrost and many more.

During the summer months there is a lot of bathing activity and observation opportunities are limited.

Access

Altwarmbüchener See is located northeast of the city of Hannover. The lake is easily accessible by public transport (tram line 3). The tram stops (1) are 500–900 m from the lake. There are also numerous parking spaces available. Press a P on the map for directions to a parking lot. A circular path (3,5 km) leads around the lake. In summer, there is a kiosk, boat rentals, and public restrooms.
