Description

Batumi Botanical Garden, located at the distance of 9 km from the center of Batumi, occupies the area of 109 hectare of approximately 1 km stripe of Southern-Western section of the coastline located between the river Chakvistskali estuary and the Green Cape, being spread to the height of 0-220 meters from the sea level. Batumi Botanical Garden was established in 1912 by the prominent botanist and geographer Andrey Krasnov. These lush green surroundings attract many birds. During migration and especially on rainy days, many migrants come down and can be seen in the gardens. It is the best site near Batumi for Tyrkerspettmeis. Check the pine trees along the asphalted road that leads towards the entrance of the garden. Among the many other birds that can be seen are Pirol, Gråfluesnapper, Vepsevåk, Hærfugl, Dvergspett, Tornskate, Kråke, Munk and during autumn migration you have a chance to spot Nattergal and Østsanger, underarten nitidus.

Access

It is easy to reach the botanical gardens from Batumi (9 km north of the center of Batumi). The minibus number 31 with the last stop at the entrance of the Batumi Botanical garden is the best option out of the tree: Two other – one by bus N15, and minibus number 40 till Chakvi will guide you to the destination. To reach the Batumi Botanical Garden by train, you can take a train from Batumi to the Mtsvane Kontskhi (Green Cape) station. The garden is located near this station. If you arrive by car: On the north side of Batumi Botanical Garden is a big parking. Press P on the map for directions to the parking.
