In october and november there are tens of thousands of Trane around Lac du Der. In february and march the same. All because of migration.
Built in 1974 to regulate the Marne, this lake covers an area of 4800 hectares and is one of the largest reservoirs in Europe and a paradise for birds. Mud pools at the end of summer attract migrating waders and numerous ducks in winter and spring. But the lake has it's claim to fame from especially one bird: Trane.
But also Sædgås, Hvitkinngås and Grågås, Havørn, Storspove, Dvergsvane and Kvinand. This natural and preserved framework houses more than 200 bird species, including a number of rare and endangered species, 40 different mammals, 45 species of dragonflies, 20 species of amphibians and more than 200 different plants.
Many other species, but Lac du Der is famous for the cranes. Birdguide Antoine Cobaixo will show you the birds of Lac du Der in any saison.
The best way to go to Lac du Der is with your own car. You can park on many (free) places around the lake and on the dykes.
