The observatory opens onto a very open pond, favorable to numerous ducks, waders and herons.
Observatoire de l'étang des Essarts is a bird hide on a very open pond. Good spot to observe ducks, waders and herons. Among the birds you can encounter are Vipe, Enkeltbekkasin, Skogsnipe, Strandsnipe, Skjeand, Rødhodeand, Stjertand (winter), Svarthalsdykker, Hvitkinnsvartterne, Egretthegre, Silkehegre, Purpurhegre and Skjestork.

From the D17, take the D44 towards St-Michel-en-Brenne, parking area on the right. Access via the rural road which crosses the Reserve. Another possible access on foot from the Picadon car park located on the D6a. Click on the P in the map for directions to the Picadon car park. From this car park it is a 600m walk to the bird hide.
