The site is an old gravel pit located on the banks of the river Saône and today rehabilitated into a recreational lake.
Gravière de Fleurville is interesting for migratory birds and especially passerines. It is a good site to observe Pungmeis, Sivspurv but also Stork. In the immediate vicinity of the gravel pit there is a large island in the Saône which is home to a mixed colony of herons composed of Kuhegre, Silkehegre and Natthegre.
