Description

The village of Zammelen is located on the edge of the Haspengouw plateau and in the valley of the winding stream Mombeek. A combination of water, lime and sand in the soil creates a nature reserve with alternating meadows, hay fields, marsh and patches of wet forests. These different landscapes attract many birds. Birds you can observe in the area include Egretthegre, Gjøk, Pirol, Toppmeis, Stork, Myrhauk and Sanglerke.

Nederlands: Het dorpje Zammelen ligt aan de rand van het Haspengouws leemplateau en in de vallei van de kronkelende Mombeek. Een combinatie van water, leem, kalk en zand in de bodem zorgt voor een natuurgebied met afwisselende beemden, hooilanden, moerassen en broekbosjes. Die verschillende landschappen trekken veel vogels aan. Vogels die je kunt zien zijn onder meer Egretthegre, Gjøk, Pirol, Toppmeis, Stork, Myrhauk en Sanglerke.

Parking in Jesseren or Zammelen. Click on the P on the map for directions to a parking lot. There is an information board at the church of Zammelen with various marked walks. The circular walk indicated on the map below is approximately 5 km.
