2,500 hectares of tidal sand and mudflats at the eastern end of the Menai Strait. Good for winter waders and wildfowl.
At Traeth Lafan during winter one can see Scholekster, Wulp, Tureluur, Bonte Strandloper and Zilverplevier in large numbers. Also Dwergmeeuw, Middelste Zaagbek, Kleine Zilverreiger, Velduil, Smelleken and Slechtvalk, Graspieper and Oeverpieper. Visit either side of high tide for best results (see link to the Tides table below).
By road, 2 miles east of Bangor. Head north of A55 on minor road. Click on the P in the map for directions. The route indicated on the map is about 4 km.
