Beschrijving
Redesmere is a large manmade lake used for sailing and fishing. The lake shore is surrounded by reed beds and some forest with the wider area being of pasture and farmland.
Winter is the best time for waterfowl. As many as 200 Meerkoet could be present in winter months and their nests can often be seen in the reeds in spring and summer. It is also a known overwintering location for Kokmeeuw , many were ringed here and come very close to the picnic area.
There are also Wilde Eend, Grote Canadese Gans , Kuifeend , Brilduiker, Scholekster, Tafeleend , Mandarijneend, Knobbelzwaan and ocasional Nijlgans .
In summer, Oeverzwaluw , Huiszwaluw and Boerenzwaluw are flying over water.
Resident species in the woodland include Vink , Boomklever , Taigaboomkruiper , Winterkoning , Grote Bonte Specht , Bosuil and other. Summer visitors will include Zwartkop , Fitis , Grauwe Vliegenvanger and Kleine Karekiet .

The lake is about 5km west of Macclesfield and can be easily reached by car. There is a car park at the south end with a picnic area (click P on the map for directions). At weekends there is usually a coffee or icecream van parked here for refreshments.
There is a footpath along the east side that can also be continued through to Capesthorne Hall for a longer route, or it can be enjoyed from the picnic area whilst sat in your car or on a bench with a view of the lake. A walk to the north end of the lake and back will take about an hour and half at a leisurely birding pace.
