Extra info

From the circular 10 km perimeter track the reservoir and its flooded backwaters can be viewed with ease. The northern reach favours woodland birds and in summer several species of warbler breed here. Waterspreeuw breed along the inflow river at the northern end. In autumn, when water levels are low, Oeverloper and Witgat are regular visitors. In winter good numbers of wildfowl congregate on open waters and within the wooded creeks. You can spot Wintertaling, Brilduiker, Dodaars, Grote Zaagbek, Roodkeelduiker and IJsduiker. The main body of the reservoir is a roost for large numbers of gulls with sometimes Kleine Burgemeester and Grote Burgemeester.
