Around the Fish Quay in Hartlepool gulls hang around, especially on the roof. Often joined in winter by Kleine Burgemeester and Grote Burgemeester. In the harbour entrance Eider, Roodkeelduiker, IJsduiker and Zeekoet can often be seen. Sea watching by the lighthouse can produce a large variety of gulls, ducks, auks, terns, skua’s and shearwaters at various times of the year. The rocks along side the promenade are home to Paarse Strandloper, Scholekster and Steenloper that winter in Hartlepool bay.
