Beschrijving
The Bolle of Magadino, between the mouth of the Verzasca and the Magadino plain, are a precious wildlife refuge. It is the only mouth of a river in a lake which has remained in its natural state south of the Alps (and one of the few in Europe); they are rich in aquatic and terrestrial biotopes in various phases of evolution. More than 300 species of birds have been seen here. Among the birds you can see here are Nijlgans, Slobeend, Smient, Kuifeend, Grote Zaagbek, Dodaars, Fuut, Turkse Tortel, Aalscholver, Roerdomp, Blauwe Reiger, Grote Zilverreiger, Koereiger, Visarend, Wespendief, Bruine Kiekendief, Blauwe Kiekendief, Sperwer, Zwarte Wouw, Buizerd, Steenuil, IJsvogel, Grote Bonte Specht, Zwarte Specht, Torenvalk, Wielewaal, Gaai, Bonte Kraai, Zwarte Mees, Pimpelmees, Koolmees, Buidelmees, Kleine Karekiet, Oeverzwaluw, Boerenzwaluw, Staartmees, Boomklever, Boomkruiper, Roodborst, Nachtegaal, Witte Kwikstaart, Vink, Groenling and Rietgors.

The ideal time for bird watching is from April to May. There are several entrances - including three on the territory of Magadino and one in the Tenero-Gordola area - to access the educational paths with information panels in Italian, German and English.
