Beschrijving
Dharmapala Park is a landscaped urban green space situated in the heart of Galle, just a short walk from the historic Galle Fort and the international cricket stadium. The area features a mix of open lawns, mature tropical trees, and paved walking paths, creating a parkland habitat that contrasts with the surrounding busy city streets. Because of its coastal location, the park serves as a small but effective green corridor where terrestrial vegetation meets the marine environment of the nearby Indian Ocean, offering a blend of garden and coastal edge habitats.
The park is filled with the sound of House Crow, Rose-ringed Parakeet and Common Myna. You can easily find barbets and drongo there and even without leaving the park, the call of Red-wattled Lapwing is there. Going out of park gives you the chance to find terns and waders like egrets and herons.

Dharmapala Park is in the heart of Galle and just next to the Galle Fort, so it can be reached on foot or by taking a tuktuk. As it's very close to busy streets of Galle, you might not find a parking spot especially for cars. If you want to explore the park, it can be done in an hour, but you can plan to visit the Fort and maybe check the sea.
