The Lago complex is made up of a large fish farm, two freshwater ponds and others into which drainage from the fish farm flows, a marsh, a beach and an inlet protected from the sea by breakwaters. It is one of the best places to observe gulls. For example Kokmeeuw, Zwartkopmeeuw, Kleine Mantelmeeuw, Geelpootmeeuw, Zilvermeeuw and Grote Mantelmeeuw. In addition, Stormmeeuw, Grote Burgemeester, Kleine Burgemeester and Pontische Meeuw are regularly observed. There are also records from Drieteenmeeuw, Dwergmeeuw, Kleine Kokmeeuw , Ringsnavelmeeuw , Larus argentatus argentatus, Larus glaucoides kumlieni, Larus smithsonianus, and from the famous Thayer's Gull (Larus thayeri) known by the name "Cypriana" which spent seasons in several years consecutive here and was the first observation of the species in Spain.

El complejo de Lago está formado por una gran piscifactoría, dos charcas de agua dulce y otras a las que desembocan los desgües de la pisicifactoría, una marisma, una playa y una ensenada protegida del mar por los espigones de Alcoa. Es uno de los mejores lugares para observar gaviotas de la Mariña lucense, siendo comunes Kokmeeuw , Zwartkopmeeuw , Kleine Mantelmeeuw , Geelpootmeeuw , Zilvermeeuw y Grote Mantelmeeuw . Además se observan con regularidad Stormmeeuw , Grote Burgemeester , Kleine Burgemeester y Pontische Meeuw . También hay citas de Drieteenmeeuw , Dwergmeeuw , Kleine Kokmeeuw , Ringsnavelmeeuw , Gaviota de Kumlieni (Larus glaucoides kumlieni), Gaviota argéntea americana (Larus smithsonianus), Larus argentatus argentatus y de la famosa Gaviota de Thayer o Gaviota esquimal (Larus thayeri) conocida con el nombre de "Cipriana" que pasó temporadas en varios años consecutivos aquí y supuso la primera observación de la especie en España.
