The Almendral park is surrounded by urbanizations. Even so, the nearby pine forests serve as a refuge for nocturnal birds of prey like Steenuil and Ransuil that use it to hunt. Also common are Groene Specht and various insectivores such as Grauwe Vliegenvanger and Zwarte Roodstaart.

The area is especially interesting on spring nights. You can see almost all species of nocturnal birds of prey. The Steenuil, Bosuil, Ransuil and the Oehoe stand out.
