Beschrijving
Radensko Polje is a small karst plain south-east of Ljubljana. The landscape is a mosaic of wet meadows, fields, hedgerows and surrounding forest edges, creating a rich variety of habitats within a compact area.
The plain is home to Ooievaar, Blauwe Reiger, Purperreiger, Grote Zilverreiger and Kleine Zilverreiger. Seasonal floods attract ducks such as Tafeleend, Wintertaling, Smient and Kuifeend, as well as Oeverloper and Witgat, while IJsvogel can be found along streams. Raptors include Buizerd , Torenvalk and Havik, with Roodpootvalk passing during migration. Warblers and several woodpeckers add to the diversity.
Though not the easiest birding location - birds tend to be elusive and the terrain challenging - Radensko Polje rewards patience with excellent birdlife and scenic karst landscape.
