The Fábrica da Pólvora de Barcarena was one of the main armaments factories in Lisbon. The area is split into two areas separated by a stream. The water, essential to the process of making munitions, and the surrounding park and gardens attract many birds. Among the birds you can encounter are Zomertortel, Kleine Zilverreiger, , Halsbandparkiet, Zwarte Mees, Graszanger, Roodstuitzwaluw, Cetti's Zanger, Kleine Zwartkop, Vuurgoudhaan, Sint-Helenafazantje, Europese Kanarie and Grote Gele Kwikstaart.
