Beschrijving

Lagoas de Bertiandos e São Pedro d'Arcos is a protected area that is located in the northwest region of Portugal, in a zone of interaction between the Mediterranean and Atlantic climates. This set of biogeographic factors translates into the presence of high natural importance ecosystems, namely hygrophilous forests, wet pastures, lagoons, rivers and pine forests. These different habitats allow the presence of a large number of bird species, with more than 100 species reported so far. The most part of the protected area is covered by a broadleaf forest, where it is possible to find several birds such as Zwarte Mees, Kuifmees, Koolmees, Pimpelmees, Taigaboomkruiper, Winterkoning, Zwartkop, Zanglijster, Koperwiek, Goudvink, Tjiftjaf, Iberische Tjiftjaf, Vink, Roodborst, Gaai, Grote Bonte Specht and Groene Specht. In this dense hygrophilous forest there are several wetlands, of which the São Pedro and Mimoso lagoons stand out. In these two lagoons there are observatories that facilitate the observation and detection of species such as Wintertaling, Dodaars, Meerkoet, Blauwe Reiger, Grote Zilverreiger, Purperreiger, Kleine Zilverreiger, Waterral, Watersnip, Aalscholver, Cetti's Zanger and Kleine Karekiet. The adjacent areas of the protected area (agricultural fields, pine and eucalyptus forests) also provide the observation of several species, namely Veldleeuwerik, Graspieper, Kneu, Roodborsttapuit, Zwarte Spreeuw, Spreeuw, Ekster, Zwarte Kraai, Sperwer, Havik andTorenvalk.
