Serra de Alcaria Ruiva is the highest point in the municipality of Mértola, with 370 meters high. It has a dense, typically Mediterranean vegetation cover. On the top of Alcaria Ruiva you have a panoramic view. It is an ideal point for observing birds of prey that occur in the surrounding Parque Natural Vale do Guadiana. Among the birds you can see are: Monniksgier, Spaanse Keizerarend, Steenarend, Vale Gier, Rode Wouw, Zwarte Wouw, Havikarend, Slangenarend and Dwergarend.
