During the spring many waterbirds breed in the Ruda Fishponds Grebes such as Dodaars, Fuut and Roodhalsfuut. During migration many ducks can be seen, most interesting: Pijlstaart, Slobeend, Krakeend, Zomertaling and Wintertaling, and sometimes others. IJsvogel can be seen every time on the river flowing through the complex. In the reeds you can hear and see Baardman, Grote Karekiet, Buidelmees, Kleine Karekiet and various other species of warblers. In the sky raptors such as Zeearend, Buizerd, Sperwer and Havik. Various songbird species live in the nearby forest as well. During the migration plenty of shorebirds stop by. Groenpootruiter, Bosruiter, Watersnip, Kemphaan, Witgat and Oeverloper being the most common ones.

One small parking spot behind the bridge on the river. Click on the P in the map for directions. Don't wander of the paths as it's a privately owned area. The area can only be visited on foot. The circular route indicated on the map is about 5 km.
