Beschrijving
The Isletas de Granada are a group of 365 small islands in Lake Nicaragua, just southeast of the city of Granada. These islands were formed thousands of years ago by a volcanic eruption from the nearby Mombacho Volcano. Some of them are privately owned with vacation homes, while others are home to local fishermen and farmers. Most of the islets have a lush vegetation and are surrounded by floating vegetation with blooming water lilies.
The area has a rich birdlife. You can observe herons, egrets, cormorants, terns, grebes, Limpkin, Black-necked Stilt, Purple Gallinule, Northern Jacana and an astonishing amount Ringed Kingfisher and Osprey diving for fish or sitting on bare tree branches. But also many other birds. Very often also several species of monkeys can be observed.

The Isletas de Granada are located in Lake Nicaragua, just southeast of the city of Granada. You can explore the area through a boat tour or by kayaking. Boat trips are offered by vendors in Granada's central square, at various travel agencies in the city or at the port where the boats leave from (marked with a star on the map). The price is around $10-15 for an 1,5 to 2 hours per person. A 2-hour boat tour will allow you to see a large part of the area.
