Beschrijving
The Kōwhai Bush Track is a peaceful track to walk or cycle along, good for admiring a selection of native NZ trees and shrubs (and some exotic ones). It is also the place closest to Kaikōura where you can see South Island Robin. On occasion there will be Tomtit, California Quail, Wild Turkey, Sacred Kingfisher and Shining Bronze Cuckoo.
Close to town, this is a pleasant excursion with a decent chance of seeing birds which are not as common in a more suburban area.

Toegang
Follow Schoolhouse Road west until there is a right turn into the Mānuka (the left option goes along the edge of a field instead). Follow the unsealed road through the trees and take the left at the T (sometimes the right turn is fully overgrown). Proceed until you see the bicycle path signage, then park at the pull-off area by the right side of the road.
