The eastern part of the Fiordland National Park is easy to access because of the Kepler Track and other well managed tracks.

Beschrijving

The ca. 60 km long route of the Kepler Track is not just a very beautiful hike, but also interesting for its birds. For some species this is maybe the easiest accessible area to see in the wild and it covers different habitats, such as alpine tussock meadows, native forest and a little swamp area. Highlights are the endangered Blue Duck and the New Zealand Falcon, as well as the Southern Brown Kiwi.

Toegang

To walk the track you need to pay a fee. The track itself is very well maintained, but it is an alpine multiday hike, so be aware that you need to fit the phsical requirements for such a walk. It is also possible to walk to the Iris Burn Hut and back on a single day, what is also the ornithologically most interesting part.
