Beschrijving
The "Tichelgaten" is a fairly small natural area near the village of Buren and consists of several small ponds, reedbeds, pastures and small forested areas. Once, this area has been excavated for clay and has been turned into a small natural area since. The area is a good spot for many species of common songbird, woodpecker and small numbers of waterbirds. Frequently sighted species are Groene Specht, Zwartkop and Grauwe Vliegenvanger. The small ponds and reedbeds are a great spot for Kleine Karekiet, Dodaars and IJsvogel. The small forested area in the west provides good habitat for woodpeckers, like Grote Bonte Specht and sometimes Kleine Bonte Specht. Scarcer species that can be found here are Wielewaal, Cetti's Zanger, Appelvink and Nachtegaal.
On the northern side of the road, the biggest pond is located and provides a great spot for many species of waterbird. In winter, fairly large numbers of Kuifeend and Krakeend can be found here. Sometimes, scarcer species like Grote Zaagbek and Tafeleend might show up.
