The semi-desert area of Ras Baalbek in the northern Bekaa region is a barren area where little precipitation occurs and consequently living conditions are hostile to both fauna and flora. The Ras Baalbek area is interesting for observation of soaring bird migration. But especially for the wide selection of Sahara-Sindian biome-restricted species rarely found elsewhere in Lebanon such as Renvogel, Rosse Woestijnleeuwerik, Woestijnleeuwerik, Temmincks Strandleeuwerik, Woestijntapuit, Oostelijke Rouwtapuit and Levantwoestijnzanger.

Ras Baalbek is located in the northern Bekaa Valley. Access is possible by car via the A4 highway (Baalbek-Qaa). Before planning a trip, it is better to reach out to a local birding guide and to seek information from local authorities since the region is not always safe. In some areas, equipments such as spotting scopes and binoculars can seem suspicious to locals if the birder is not part of a research program or local conservation NGO.
