Beschrijving
The forests of slopes in Gauja National Park with old deciduous trees attract less common species of woodpeckers (Witrugspecht, Drieteenspecht, Zwarte Specht and Middelste Bonte Specht). Relatively often spotted are the elsewhere rare Grauwe Fitis, Kleine Vliegenvanger and locally common Hazelhoen. Oeraluil has started nesting in the park, and the smallest owl of Latvia — Dwerguil — is also seen more often. Many Kwartelkoning and some species of warblers, which are not common in Western Europe (Krekelzanger, Struikrietzanger), are found in the riverside meadows of Gauja.
