Beschrijving

Phou Samsoum is an excellent location for high- altitude birds with good patches of intact montane forest. 222 species seen so far, list still growing. Typical species include: Silver-eared Laughingthrush, Scarlet-faced Liocichla, Black-eared Shrike-Babbler, Blyth's Shrike-Babbler, Golden-throated Barbet (Himalayan), Red-tailed Minla, Chestnut-tailed Minla, Mrs. Gould's Sunbird, Green-tailed Sunbird, Spectacled Barwing, Green Cochoa, Rusty-capped Fulvetta, Stripe-throated Yuhina, Spot-breasted Parrotbill, Chestnut Bulbul, Striated Bulbul, Mountain Bulbul, Long-tailed Sibia , etc. etc.

Toegang

Easy access by car or motorcycle over tarred road via either Mok district or Khoun district, about 8 hours drive from Vientiane Capital City. Basic Guesthouses in Mok district town (Muang Nakhon) (350m ASL) or in Muang Ngan, the last village in Khoun district (1500 m. ASL). There are numerous trails leading into the forest where birds can be observed while walking.
