Beschrijving

The Longarini lagoon is a wetland area of about 200 hectares located in the territory of Ispica, a few hundred meters from the coast. It is the largest of a complex of marshes that extend between Ispica and Pachino. The lagoon attracts a wide array of species throughout the year. In winter one can see Flamingo, several species of ducks, Meerkoet, Kievit, different species of herons, Bruine Kiekendief, IJsvogel, Buidelmees and more. During migration, the area attracts several typical wetland species, including waders such as Groenpootruiter and Steltkluut, as well as migratory ducks like Zomertaling and Witoogeend. The site is one of the last places where Marmereend breeds in Italy. Re-introduced Purperkoet can also be seen.
