Stagni di Focognano consists of five lakes, covering about 64 hectares. Some of the lakes are permanent, while others change with the seasons, creating a mosaic of habitats that support rich biodiversity. The site is an important stopover for migratory birds as well as a protected habitat for amphibians such as newts, frogs, and toads. In winter, you can find Blauwe Reiger, Grote Zilverreiger, Koereiger, and Kleine Zilverreiger. Spring sees the arrival of many other bird species, such as Purperreiger and Ralreiger, which remain at the edges of the wetlands. In deeper waters, you can observe Zomertaling, Wintertaling, Tafeleend, and Slobeend. Other birds that can be observed include Flamingo, Waterhoen, Meerkoet, Groenpootruiter, Tureluur, Zwarte Ruiter, Woudaap, Fuut, IJsvogel, Steltkluut and Lepelaar.

Italiano: L’oasi Stagni di Focognano (Area Naturale Protetta di Interesse Locale) si trova nel comune di Campi Bisenzio. L’area rappresenta un importante punto di sosta per l’avifauna migratoria nonché un habitat protetto per gli anfibi quali tritone punteggiato, tritone crestato, raganella e rospo smeraldino. In inverno si possono trovare: aironi cenerini, aironi bianchi maggiori, guardabuoi e garzette. La primavera vede arrivare molte altre specie di uccelli quali: aironi rossi, e garze ciuffetto che si mantengono ai margini delle zone umide. Nelle acque più profonde si osservano: marzaiole, alzavole, moriglioni e mestoloni.

Stagni di Focognano is located in Campi Bisenzio, near Florence. You can reach it easily by car from Florence in about 20–30 minutes, and there are parking areas available near the entrance of the reserve. Press P on the map for directions. Public transport options include buses stopping at CAMPI Via Buozzi, from where you can walk to Stagni di Focognano. From the parking lot at the entrance a pedestrian path begins. Note that the reserve is only open to guided tours, so check schedules in advance (see the link below).

Italiano: L'oasi Stagni di Focognano è molto ben collegata e quindi facilmente raggiungibile da ogni punto di partenza. L'area presenta un parcheggio all'ingresso, dal quale parte un percorso pedonale. Si prega di notare che la riserva è aperta solo alle visite guidate, quindi verificare gli orari in anticipo (vedere il link qui sotto).
