Ulfljotsvatn is an interesting zone to visit with nice views of the lake and surroundings. It looks like the typical Icelandic grazing fields with erosion signs next to round rocky mountains, but it also has small forest patches and is full of small growing birches and pines that will become forest in some years thanks to the Icelandic Forestry Association's work, probably increasing the biodiversity and its attractiveness. Although a wide variety of birds can nowadays be found there, such as the characteristic Icelandic Anatidae species, other aquatic birds like IJsduiker and Noordse Stern or Watersnip and Grutto searching for insects in the fields. You can also see Alpensneeuwhoen, some arctic fox or, if you are very lucky, even the mighty Zeearend has been seen overflying the lake during the late summer months.

You can get there easily by car in summer or in a 4x4 in winter. The best way to explore the zone is hiking or with a bike. You can also stay in the Scout's center camping.
